Votto wins NL MVP for 2010
In a not-so-stunning announcement, we’ve learned that Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto absolutely dominated the voting to win National League MVP in baseball. He received 31 out of 32 first place votes to easily defeat St. Louis Cardinals’ 1B Albert Pujols and Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies.
Votto was stellar this year (even if he didn’t make the All Star team thanks to Charlie Manuel), finishing in the top three in Triple Crown categories.
Votto’s .324 batting average was good for second. His 37 home runs and 113 RBI’s were third in each category. Votto also led the league in on-base percentage (.424), slugging (.600) and OPS (1.024).
Despite all of his splendid hitting this year, he was not able to muster a single hit off of Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay in the NLDS.
Other players that Votto beat out for the MVP award include, Zach Duke, Nyjer Morgan, Buster Posey, Dan Uggla and Ross Gload.
