Tulowitski to make $157.75 million over 10 years
The Colorado Rockies are about to sign Troy Tulowitski to a monster contract, according to ESPN‘s Buster Olney. The shortstop has agreed to a ten-year deal that will be worth a total of $157.75 million. Wow.
“He is already under contract for ’11-13. He gets $16 m. in ’14, $20 m a year from 2015-2019. He will have a $14 m. base in ’20 (more),” Olney said on Twitter.
But he wasn’t finished there, he continued into a second tweet because of Twitter’s 140-character limit. That’s the whole thing with Twitter.
“And the team has a $6m in escalators. $14 m. team option for ’21, with a $4 m. buyout, that also has $6 mi. in escalators,” Olney tweets.
This is certainly monster money. Then again, he hit .315/27/95 last season, and if he can continue to do that, he’ll be worth every penny. Let’s hope he doesn’t become a big pile of dead money towards the end of the deal. Those will be tough checks to cut.
