Surprise! Asomugha is a free agent

This is a shocker. Any team out there looking for a cornerback this offseason will be thrilled to know that they have a shot at the best one in the league. Yes, the Oakland Raiders’ Nnamdi Asomugha is better than Darrelle Revis.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that, due to a little known clause in his contract, Asomugha can void the final year in his contract and is now a free agent. Apparently, he didn’t earn several “unlikely to be achieved” incentives, and he’s now on the market.

Raiders fans should be thrilled. Talk about a group of people that continually get railroaded.

The 30-year old stud didn’t play as many snaps in 2010 as he did in 2009, nor did he make as many big plays. He only played in 14 games this year as opposed to 16 last season. And because of this, he is free to sign wherever.

A team like the Philadelphia Eagles would probably love to have him. OTR knows for a fact that they tried to pry him away back in 2008 when he was a restricted free agent, but it wasn’t happening and they signed Asante Samuel instead (by the way, I broke that story. Google it). Think about it, you can’t throw to Asomugha’s side, you just can’t. So you’d be forced to play with fire on Asante’s side? That probably equates to a lot of turnovers.

We’ll see what happens. Every single NFL team took note of this new development, I guarantee it.
