Larry Drew II leaves UNC

LarryDrewII 300x242 Larry Drew II leaves UNCIn what would be a shocking development to us if we cared about college basketball at this time of year, North Carolina point guard Larry Drew II has left the UNC campus and plans to transfer, a source tells Pat Forde of ESPN.

This is about two days after he just had nine assists in 19 minutes in a win over Boston College.

The source also said that the school and team were aware of Drew’s decision.

Drew is most likely frustrated that his playing time is down after losing his starting job to Kendall Marshall. His minutes have gone from 28.8 to 22.8 per game, points from 8.5 points to 4.4, and assists from 5.9 to 3.9.

If Drew, the son of Atlanta Hawks coach Larry Drew, transfers to another Division I school, he’ll have to sit out a year. He will then have a year of eligibility remaining before he gets drafted by the NBA in the second round and is then out of basketball entirely in a year and a half. He might then enroll in the University of Phoenix to finish his degree, and will be very angry with himself for not going to class more often when he was in school.
