Malkin tears two knee ligaments
This is certainly not good news for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yes, they have a deep squad, but any time you lose one of the best players in the entire NHL, it’s a bad day.
Last night was supposed to be a good night against the Buffalo Sabres. After missing Evgeni Malkin for five games with a sinus infection, he was finally set to return.
“We were anticipating getting him back in the lineup and healthy,” head coach Dan Bylsma said.
And return he did…for a little bit.
Malkin got taken into the boards and collapsed in a heap, holding on to his knee. An MRI revealed that he has a torn ACL and torn MCL.
Bylsma and others are saying that they don’t know if he needs surgery and they are discussing other treatment options. We don’t get it. It’s two major knee ligaments that are shredded. How can he not be ruled out for the rest of the season regardless of treatment options?
Don’t expect to see Malkin on the ice any time soon.
