Ian White on the block?

We’ve heard the names of Carolina Hurricanes Joni Pitkanen and Erik Cole recently come up in possible trade scenarios. As recently as Saturday, we heard Cole linked to the Philadelphia Flyers.

But, Carolina GM Jim Rutherford is getting calls about other players too. Specifically, defenseman Ian White.

“Something is in the works and it’s pending … if it happens it’ll happen within the next 24 hours I guess,” Carolina coach Paul Maurice told the media on Wednesday. “If it doesn’t, he’s with our hockey team.”

We like this guy. Pretty factual.

The 26-year old White is in his fifth NHL season and his first with the Hurricanes. In 55 games, he has two goals, 16 points and is a minus six. We can see why this guy would be a hot commodity.

Rutherford said last week that he wasn’t actively looking to make a deal, but he will field offers.

“There are deals out there and if you just played in a fantasy league and wanted to be a fantasy GM, you could make great hockey deals,” Rutherford said. “But you can’t because you have to factor the money in. Somebody has got to pay the bills.”

We’ll refer to Maurice’s comments. If it happens, it happens. If not, White will be a Carolina Hurricane.
