Gailey: Maybin “hasn’t shown it in practice or in games”

AaronMaybin 300x225 Gailey: Maybin hasnt shown it in practice or in games Former Penn State defensive end Aaron Maybin was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the No. 11-overall pick in 2009. We know for a fact that the entire organization and anyone within a sniff of the 716 area code wishes that sentence weren’t true.

Maybin has started just one NFL game so far and has a whopping total of zero sacks. If he’s not in Vernon Gholston’s ballpark yet, he’s at least waiting at the ticket window with four primo seats in hand.

Tuesday morning, head coach Chan Gailey, who wasn’t there when they selected Maybin, made it crystal clear that he’s disappointed in Maybin. And when you make it known that it’s not because he doesn’t work at it, you’re just saying he sucks at football at that point.

Gailey said that Maybin “hasn’t shown it in practice or in games.” Ouch. That’s pretty bad. Usually coaches will at least say that his practice success has to translate to games, but Maybin isn’t even getting that courtesy.

“I think he wants to. I think he wants to,” Gailey said, leaving pauses between each sentence, according to ESPN’s Tim Graham. “He works at it. I’m glad you [asked that]. I don’t want anybody to think he doesn’t work at it.”

He repeated that last sentence for effect when Graham asked if this meant that Maybin just isn’t good enough. His next quote reinforces the same notion.

“We all know his speed,” Gailey said. “He tried to get bigger as the season went on to handle the run better. But it’s more than just getting bigger.”

Gailey’s message to anyone with half a brain is clear: Maybin stinks.
