Royals prospect Lamb to have Tommy John

As bad as the Kansas City Royals have been for years, they actually do have a pretty sweet farm system with several guys ready to come up sooner rather than later. Earlier in May, they brought up Eric Hosmer and he’s been pretty good for them.

Another prospect, however, isn’t so lucky. According to the team’s official Twitter account, John Lamb needs a touch of the Tommy John surgery.

“#Royals announce that left-handed pitching prospect John Lamb will have Tommy John surgery tomorrow in LA, performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum,” the tweet said.

The 20-year old was ranked the No. 18 overall prospect by Baseball America heading into the season. He was expected to come up and contribute later this season, but it’s safe to say that ain’t happening now. He’ll be out into the 2012 season now.
