Rome gets four-game suspension for giving Horton concussion (video)
Anyone watch any hockey last night? It was a good ol’ fashioned to end all good ol’ fashioneds with the Boston Bruins thoroughly lambasting the Vancouver Canucks 8-1.
And there was a bit of an incident. Shortly after Nathan Horton shoveled a pass to his left as he entered the Canucks’ zone, Aaron Rome decided to plow him high with an elbow and knock him out. Like, to the hospital type of knocked him out.
We’re pretty sure that Horton didn’t appreciate it, and neither did his coach Claude Julien.
“I think what I would call it is it was a blindside hit that we’ve talked about taking out of the game,” said Julien. “He made the pass. It was late … Whether it’s through the motion of the hit, it appeared he left his feet a little bit … I’m not going to comment more than that. I’ll say what I always say: let the league take care of it. We’re trying to clean that out. Let’s see where they go with that.”
Rome is scheduled to have a little tete a tete with the NHL on Tuesday regarding disciplinary action. It’s likely that he’ll get some sort of suspension, given that the hit landed him a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
As for Horton, his status for the rest of the Stanley Cup Finals is certainly in doubt. He has a severe concussion and who knows if he’ll even be ready by training camp.
UPDATE: NHL has suspended Rome for four games.
