Saints let Bush talk to other teams?
Several sources tell Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that the New Orleans Saints gave RB Reggie Bush permission to speak to other teams back in February. They did this so that Bush could gauge his market value as he and the Saints talk about restructuring his contract.
Why are they restructuring his deal? Oh, because he’s owed $11.8 million this season and he’s not a ton more than a third-down back. A very good third-down back, but still a third-down back.
You just don’t dump that kind of money into that role.
Among the interested teams, according to Cole, are the Giants, Steelers, Dolphins and Seahawks. But, he noted that the Eagles have also shown strong interest.
What’s all of this mean? That Bush is either going to take a huge pay cut or he’ll be playing for another team. Which team is anyone’s guess.
