Somers: Cards will try to get Kolb immediately, but won’t give up farm
When it comes to rumors and speculation regarding the Arizona Cardinals, there is usually one place I go to check to see if they are total BS or not. And that place is Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. He is as plugged in to that team as anyone.
So when he comments on the coming Kevin Kolb sweepstakes that has the Cardinals heavily involved, it’s worth noting.
“Look for the club to immediately attempt to trade for Eagles backup Kevin Kolb,” Somers writes. “He is the first choice, but the Cardinals don’t want to give up a ransom for him.”
The Eagles have been rumored to be asking for a variety of things in return. Two second-round picks, a first-round pick, a pick and another player….there is all different stuff floating around.
But, regardless of whether or not the Cardinals are able to land Kolb, Somers says that getting a QB is the first order of business when the lockout is lifted and business as usual returns.
“This much is known: Whisenhunt and his staff like Kevin Kolb. The Cardinals will try to trade for him,” he writes. “If that fails, they will show some interest in the Broncos Kyle Orton. Marc Bulger and Matt Hasselbeck, free agents, also make some sense.”
Slim pickins, huh?
