Drew has surgery on fractured ankle
The Arizona Diamondbacks lost their starting shortstop for the season Wednesday night when Stephen Drew slid into home plate and cracked his ankle. It looked like it hurt pretty good.
And according to the team’s official Twitter account, he had surgery on Thursday.
“#dbacks Mgr Kirk Gibson announces Stephen Drew to have surgery this afternoon,” the team tweeted.
It looks like the team will turn SS duties over to Cody Ransom and Willie Bloomquist.
Drew ends the 2011 season with a .252 batting average. Which means the bar was set relatively low for Ransom and Bloomquist.
