DeSean wants unrealistic money, will start year without contract

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson wants a new contract. There is no secret there. He’s only getting $600,000 this season in salary and even Stevie Wonder can see that he is completely underpaid.

The Eagles know he’s underpaid too, and they’d like to sign him long-term. But talks have broken off for the moment because DeSean is looking for money equal or better to that of Santonio Holmes’ five-year, $45 million deal. They even mentioned Larry Fitzgerald’s eight-year, $128.5 million deal and wanting a contract in between those guys.

Ain’t happening. The Eagles are not going to give up that kind of dough and it looks now like there is no way he gets a new contract before this Sunday’s game.

Look, DeSean is one of – if not the – most explosive players in all of football. But he’s not a reliable underneath receiver and just isn’t as complete as Santonio and Fitz. He needs to adjust his contract demands accordingly.

Until then, he’s looking at playing for pennies this year and getting franchised at the end of the season.
