Brandon Meriweather stinks

In 2007, the New England Patriots used their first-round pick on Brandon Meriweather, a safety out of the University of Miami. He wasn’t terribly impressive and the whole “firing a gun at a party” thing happened (even though he was cleared in August).

And while the Patriots defense sucks, they still decided to cut him. That tells you what they thought of him. But, he wasn’t out of work for long as he was signed by the Chicago Bears who instantly made him a starter.

Now, he’s lost his starting job there too, despite the fact that the Bears’ safeties are pretty bad. Oh, and his partner Chris Harris? Benched too. This was after a poor game on Monday night against the Detroit Lions.

Meriweather just can’t seem to play the position properly for the Bears. He opts for big hits instead of wrapping up. And his big hits are usually by leading with his helmet into the helmet of another player. He’s the poster boy for how not to hit someone.

These two will be replaced by Major Wright and Chris Conte.
