Marlins offer to Reyes was less than $90 million

JoseReyes1 300x240 Marlins offer to Reyes was less than $90 millionIt was reported previously that the Miami Marlins had offered Jose Reyes a deal of six years at around $90 million. He’s supposedly looking for a deal north of $100 million, so that offer wouldn’t have been good enough anyway.

But, Jon Heyman of SI.com is told by sources who say their offer wasn’t even that good.

He’s told that the deal was six years and about $10-$20 million less than that. Wow, and we thought the Marlins were actually being aggressive in free agency. Heyman is hearing that the Marlins would be willing to go up to the $90-$100 million range if it was a five-year contract.

They already low-balled Albert Pujols this week and it looks like they are doing the same thing to Reyes. I guess they are banking on one of them being willing to take less money to play in South Florida.

So far, it hasn’t worked.
