Could Roy Williams be finished?
There was an article today in the Chicago Tribune that mentioned that Bears WR Roy Williams led the wideout core this season with 600 snaps. That’s kind of surprising since it seemed like he was never on the field. He ended the season with 37 receptions, which is pretty poor.
Now, he’s a free agent and Mike Martz is gone. So, one would have to assume that he’s not going back to Chicago, and their receivers blow.
So, if the Bears had him all last season in Martz’ pass-happy scheme and they wouldn’t want him, why would someone else? Is it possible that Williams will receive no takers on the open market. I think someone will kick his tires at the very least, but his starting days just have to be over.
He doesn’t really have any explosion, his hands are questionable at best and his work ethic leaves much to be desired. He doesn’t seem like someone with any kind of fire to play the game anymore.
It will be interesting to see where he lands, if anywhere at all.
