Routt chooses the Chiefs

We admit that we were pretty shocked when the Oakland Raiders cut CB Stanford Routt after giving him way too much money in the previous offseason, but apparently he’s not going to lose all that much dough. He met with several teams, but ultimately decided to sign with the Chiefs, who gave him starter money.

The Chiefs agreed to a three-year, $20 million deal with $4 million guaranteed. Like we said, that’s starter money which would have to mean that they plan to let Brandon Carr cash in on the open market.

Routt gave up eight touchdown passes and committed 17 penalties last year, so he’ll need to be careful across from Brandon Flowers. If he shows a propensity or mistakes, teams won’t bother with Flowers and just come after Routt. Flowers isn’t perfect, but why mess with him when you can throw to the penalty machine?
