According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey has gotten himself into a bit of trouble. Specifically, he was charged Thursday with DUI after an incident last month.

Heyward-Bey was pulled over around 2 a.m. on April 7 after his 2012 Range Rover was spotted driving erratically. He was given a field sobriety test and failed, although the police didn’t say what his BAC was. 0.08 is the legal limit.

Police said that he was “very cooperative.” They brought him in on suspicion of DUI and was later released.

That is, until now. He’s officially been charged with DUI now and could face discipline from the league. Although it should be noted that he doesn’t have a history of legal issues.

Being a bust is, in fact, legal.

The NFL career of Mikel Leshoure is off to a pretty terrible start. After being selected in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions, he just can’t get things going. He missed all of last year with a torn Achilles tendon and things have just gotten worse.

ESPN 96.1 is reporting that Leshoure is being arraigned on Monday on marijuana possession charges, and it’s his second offense.

Lions beat writer Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press tweets that his first incident occurred on February 18th.

“On Feb. 18, Leshoure was cited in a traffic stop for possession of marijuana. Plead to a lesser charge, use of marijuana. Paid a fine,” Birkett tweets.

This second arrest in March is a little more interesting. According to Birkett, Leshoure tried to eat the pot during a traffic stop.

“He was a passenger in a car this time, pulled over March 12. Chief of police I spoke to said Leshoure tried to eat the weed to avoid charge,” Birkett says.

That must have been quite a scene and one we’d love to see a video of. Still, this is just bad news for a guy who is already behind the eight ball. One would have to think that he’s going to be disciplined by the league.

Two days ago, former San Diego Chargers QB Ryan Leaf posted bail so that he could walk amongst the free after he was arrested for burglary and drug possession. For Leaf, this was really rock bottom and he has decided to really clean himself up and….wait, what?

Yep, it’s two days later and he was arrested again. On burglary, theft and drug possession charges. Oh, and a probation violation. Yikes.

At this point, you just have to feel bad for the guy. He clearly has a bunch of problems, and being labeled one of the biggest busts in NFL history isn’t even cracking the top 10.

In all honesty, we do indeed feel badly for the guy. Sure, it’s easy to take shots at him (very easy), but he’s got big-time issues that he needs to straighten out. Pain killer addiction is nothing to mess with. And when you are breaking into houses, you definitely have a problem.

The good thing is we doubt he’s getting out on bail this time. The best thing for him is to just sit his ass in a jail cell and be protected from himself.

The Miami Dolphins aren’t in great shape these days. They still don’t have a quarterback and you have players out there like Ryan Clark claiming that “no one” wants to go there.

That sucks. So, the Dolphins aren’t in position to be dealing with any extra issues. But now, they have to. LB Koa Misi was arrested for battery, according to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post.

“Misi is wanted for battery in California and was arrested without incident at his home in Weston,” Volin tweets.

The incident, as Volin’s tweet points out, is stemming from an issue in California. We don’t know the extent of the details, but the end result isn’t good.

In 1991, pitcher Brien Taylor was the first-overall pick of the New York Yankees. He had showed some promise in Double-A at one point, but never was able reach his full potential because of a poor life decision. He got into a fight and injured his pitching shoulder, and was never able to pitch the way he used to following surgery.

Now, it’s 2012 and Taylor is back making more good life decisions. Decisions like selling cocaine and crack, eventually finding a great undercover agent to sell to.

So yeah, he’s been arrested and is sitting in a cell on $275,000 bond. I’m going to guess he never made any money in baseball to cover that cost. Then again, he might have it if he’s been doing this for a while and never got caught.

Taylor did get a then-record $1.55 million signing bonus with the Yankees, but there isn’t a chance in hell that any of that is left.

We hear about – and write about – athletes getting arrested for DUI’s all the time. It happens constantly, but we suppose it’s a little different when your job as an athlete is to, you know, drive.

We don’t know exactly what happened, but John Wes Townley was arrested around 4:30 AM Tuesday morning after his BMW veered off the road and hit a telephone pole. The Athens
Banner-Herald reported that police saw Townley as disoriented, seemingly intoxicated and bleeding from his…feet? Yes, feet.

Well, RAB Racing apparently wasn’t thrilled with this little incident, so he has been suspended as he faces the DUI charges.

“Obviously, this is an unfortunate situation,” team owner Robby Benton said in a statement. “However, we have to react to the severity of the incident accordingly.”

We’ve said for years that NASCAR would be way more interesting if the drivers were drunk during the races. Pit stops wouldn’t just be about fueling and changing tires, they’d also be there gettin’ a few more Natty Lights! You could hear them on their radios, “ckkkkkk I’m gonna need some more Old Grandad! ckkkkk” And also, you’d need a minimum BAC to win the race (To be determined by official NASCAR representatives of course, we’d need to be safe about it obviously). So if you weren’t drunk enough, you’d have to go back to the pits and start hammerin’!

Seriously, that’d we way better than seeing cars circle around an infield where you just watched its grass grow.

We mentioned back in November that, following his ACL tear, Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno was starting to head towards bust status. It’s not just that he gets injured too much to be a reliable bell cow, but he hasn’t shown any flashes of “special” that one would expect to see from the 12th-overall pick in the 2009 draft.

So, now, not only is he injured, he’s heaping more problems on top of himself. He was arrested on DUI charges after he got pulled over for doing 70 mph in a 45 mph work zone. Now let’s see, you’ve been out drinking a bit. Should you A. try to stay as close to the speed limit as possible and lay low, or B. Go as fast as you like and law enforcement be damned?

Offices say that Moreno was polite the entire time they were hauling him in, which is always a good thing. Oh and another note? His personalized license plate on his Bentley says “SAUCED.” That’s great.

As for the Broncos, they are aware of the incident.

“We take the incident involving Knowshon Moreno very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing this matter,” the Broncos said in a statement Monday. “Our organization will continue to gather information and closely monitor this issue while the legal process runs its course.”

It will be interesting to see what the Broncos do this offseason as far as running back. They’ll probably bring back McGahee as the starter, but who knows what they think of Moreno at this point. John Elway is running things and he was not an Elway draft pick, so he could have a shorter leash than other first-round picks.

Well isn’t this interesting? If this doesn’t shine even more light on the fact that MLB has no clue what it’s getting from player’s from foreign countries, I don’t know what does. First we had the Leo Nunez fake identity scandal, and now this.

You know that pitcher on the Cleveland Indians, Fausto Carmona, that you love so damn much? Well, his name ain’t Fausto. It’s Roberto Hernandez Heredia and he’s been using the identity of Fausto Carmona since he’s been in baseball. Heredia was arrested by the U.S. government when he went to show up for his work visa, because Carmona’s actual mother outed him on a radio station several weeks before.

Heredia was paying Carmona to use his identity, but apparently Carmona wanted more when Heredia got his $7 million option picked up. So, you get this situation.

Heredia was released from jail on $13,000 bond and has apologized to the U.S. government and his fans. But, what about the fact that he’s supposedly 31-years old now, a full three years older than the Indians and everyone else thought he was? I guess it’s a good thing it was just a one-year deal. If it was four or more, this thing really could have gotten ugly.

Most are speculating that Heredia won’t be charged with anything because “Leo Nunez” wasn’t. Not sure how they’d let this slide, but whatever.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Chelsea’s John Terry pissed someone off and I can promise it won’t be the last. This time, he’s facing criminal charges over an alleged racist rant directed at QPR’s Anton Ferdinand.

“I have today advised the Metropolitan Police Service that John Terry should be prosecuted for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments allegedly made during a Premier League football match between Queen’s Park Rangers and Chelsea,” said Alison Saunders, the Chief Crown Prosecutor for London.

Surprisingly, Terry said he didn’t do it.

“I am disappointed with the decision to charge me and hope to be given the chance to clear my name as quickly as possible,” Terry said in response to the charges. “I have never aimed a racist remark at anyone and count people from all races and creeds among my closest friends.”

Hey! He has black friends!

“I will fight tooth and nail to prove my innocence,” he continued. “I have campaigned against racism and believe there is no place for it in society.”

So, what did he say? Well, he’s alleged to have called Ferdinand a (we’ll spell it out for you guys because we love you so much) “fucking black cunt.”

So, if you haven’t figured it out already, it’s illegal in the United Kingdom to make racist comments. The maximum punishment in Terry’s case is a 2,500 pounds (I couldn’t find the key on the keyboard to make the pound sign).

Now things are getting interesting. As if an NFL player getting busted as a major Chicago drug kingpin isn’t interesting enough.

Now, a law enforcement source tells 670 The Score in Chicago that police have a list of NFL players who bought drugs from recently arrested Chicago Bears WR Sam Hurd. Oh boy!

And the source says that the number of players is “in the double-digits.” Could be 10, could be 99. Who knows?!

You know there are a bunch of players right now that aren’t going to be completely focused on their game this week. They know that they are in some deep crap and even if the aren’t prosecuted, just having their name out there associated with this mess could cost them their careers.

Of course, it depends on who it is. If it’s a bottom-of-the-roster bubble guy, then they could be finished in the NFL. If it’s Tom Brady? They’ll just politely ask him to stop using hardcore drugs.

This one isn’t over yet.

It’s not rare for an athlete to get caught with drugs. It’s not rare for them to get caught doing drugs. But, having a dimebag of weed in your pocket at a club is not the same as what Chicago Bears WR Sam Hurd is charged with doing.

Nope, Hurd has been arrested on federal drug trafficking charges. He was caught telling an undercover operative that he wanted 10 kg of cocaine and a half ton of marijuana per week “for distribution in the Chicago area.”

SIDE NOTE: A half ton of marijuana per week? That has to be a typo. HAS to be. Do you have any idea how much pot that is?

Anyway, this is a pretty big deal. He was trying to get the drugs from someone in North Texas and since he resides in Illinois, now you’ve got yourself federal charges. Big ones.

…his co-conspirator is in charge of doing the majority of the deals as HURD focuses on the “higher-end” deals. HURD subsequently inquired if the UCA (undercover operative) and the CI (confidential informant involved in the case) could provide him with Mexican cellular telephones, as HURD believed that law enforcement did not have the capability of “listening” to Mexican telephones.

Hurd also told the undercover guys that he’d pay $25,000 per kilo of cocaine and $450 per pound of weed. This was not a guy who was planning on selling small bags to his friends.

The Chicago Bears have released a statement on the issue:

“We are aware of Sam’s arrest and are continuing to gather details surrounding it. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise. We will deal with them appropriately once we have all the information.”

Sure, we could have posted about Albert Pujols and the Angels giving him a $254 million contract. But, we saw this story and thought it was far more intriguing.

Remember the Miami Marlins closer Leo Nunez who got in trouble for using a fake identity in September? Well, he was arrested in his native Dominican Republic on Thursday on those same charges. His real name is Juan Carlos Oviedo and he is actually a year older than it says in your gameday program, which you wouldn’t know because no one actually goes to Marlins games.

The Marlins put him on the reserved/restricted list in September and it doesn’t seem as though he’ll be coming back to the United States any time soon.

As you may or may not have heard, Oakland Raiders LB Rolando McClain was involved (allegedly) in a little incident down in Alabama this week. He was arrested after being accused of holding a gun to a dude’s head as the he begged him not to shoot, and then fired the gun just away from his ear. It was most likely to make a statement, but that’s just a guess.

McClain faces charges of assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and firing a gun inside the city limits. All are misdemeanors according to some other sports site that we read but can’t remember where we read it.

But, here is a shocking development in the case regarding the 2010 first-round pick: His attorney says he’s innocent!

“Mr. McClain asserts his innocence,” Billy C. Burney II said in a statement. “We are confident that Mr. McClain will be cleared of all charges.”

The Raiders had no comment at the time, but a side note: Billy C. Burney II sounds like a lawyer in Alabama doesn’t he? Sounds like a “Dukes of Hazzard” character.

But, we digress.

The bottom line is that we can’t imagine how stupid some of these athletes are. McClain is making bank and he’s a very nice player on a Raiders team that’s been surprisingly good this year. We would love to know what this was about and why Rolando felt the need to get involved. At the very least, why are you still messing with guns. Christ, you’re an idiot.

Remember former Arizona Cardinal, Miami Dolphin and San Diego Charger David Boston? He was a first-round pick out of Ohio State and a damn good player for several years. Some speculated that he was a juicer, which would dovetail with him being a beast who eventually couldn’t run a fly pattern without coming out of the game for a play.

Well, David has been busy lately. And when we say “busy,” we mean punching girls in the head.

That’s right, according to a Florida television station, Boston was arrested last night on charges of aggravated battery. He allegedly punched a woman twice in the head and the wound required 10 stitches. It’s not known if he got tired after two punches and had to take a break.

But anyway, he was with two women hanging out in the one woman’s home. Supposedly, they are “strictly friends” and Boston has been staying with her for about six weeks. He was supposed to leave soon to live in a hotel. It sounds like someone was very smart with his NFL money and invested it wisely.

So yeah, he punched this woman twice and then fled the scene when the girls said they would call the police on him. The cops eventually caught up with him and, yeah, here we are. The one woman was concerned when she saw him down a bottle of vodka, a bottle of wine and then shove some pills in his mouth. Look, OTR knows all about drinking, but even we are impressed/concerned with that.

At least it’s not another DUI arrest, David. Can always look at the bright side.

Back on October 24th, Terrell Owens held a workout for all 32 NFL teams in which not one of the 32 teams sent so much as an intern. T.O. is recovering from ACL surgery and still wasn’t healthy enough to run a 40-yard dash. Perfect time to hold an audience-less audition.

Here’s the problem, on that day he also had a child support hearing in California and the judge apparently didn’t care for the fact that Owens didn’t show up. So, he issued a bench warrant for T.O.’s arrest.

Owens’ defense with regards to child support makes sense. These payment are based on when he made $11+ million a year. He isn’t making anything right now. However, that doesn’t excuse him not even showing up to make his case.

“Mr. Owens pays child support payments for his 4 children,” an Owens rep said. “The amounts are based on his 2007 Cowboys income of $11-$12 million a year.”

FOUR kids?! What the hell is wrong with some of these athletes? You aren’t married and your income (as you’ve surely notice, T.O.) has a shelf life. When you get too old, you can’t make big money playing the sport you love. Being reckless with women is a sure way to drain your life’s savings.

As for not making what you used to, okay, that’s fine that he has “no income” right now. That’s a good argument. But, that doesn’t excuse you not showing up!

“Mr. Owens is working to resolve all of these matters and appreciates his fans’ support,” the rep continued. “We are confident that Mr. Owens will be signed this season to the NFL and all of his child support payments will be modified fairly according to his true income.”

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman was always referred to as another Wes Welker, but who wasn’t nearly as good as Wes Welker. For one thing, as far as we know, Welker doesn’t grope women in clubs who don’t want to be groped.

According to police reports, Edelman does.

Edelman was arrested last night on charges of indecent assault. Apparently, he groped a woman in a club on the dance floor below her waist. A man who was with the woman saw it, and didn’t care for it.

“He saw the victim’s face change into an expression of shock,’’ police said in the report.

He then confronted Edelman and the three were kicked out of the club.

This can’t be a good thing for Edelman, who has already seen his role on the team diminished big time. He didn’t even dress for the Steelers game. Can’t imagine Belichick will be thrilled about this.

Sweet Jesus, no wonder they kept this guy in jail all weekend without bail. It’s funny, when Aaron Rodgers found Greg Jennings all by his lonesome in Sunday’s game for what was a huge joke of a touchdown, no one mentioned that the Vikings were down a starting cornerback and that may have contributed to the breakdown in the secondary.

Why were they without starter Chris Cook? Well, he had a little domestic incident that we now know was not a little domestic incident.

Cook has been charged felony assault, according to Sara Boyd of WCCO.com.

“The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has filed a felony domestic assault strangulation charge against Minnesota Vikings CB Chris Cook” Boyd tweets.

Holy hell and hand grenades. He tried to strangle her twice and cracked her in the ear. Let’s hope that this guy has a serious drug and/or alcohol problem, because if he behaves like this when completely sober then he is seriously whacked in the head. There is no excuse to behave like this no matter what you’re on, but at least you can get help for substance issues. Without the substance problems, you’re just strictly and purely 100% a horse’s ass.

OTR just texted our friend who is a public defender. He said that, yes, you need to do something pretty damn messed up to be held without bail on an assault charge. So, this is pretty darn serious.

Cook better have a good attorney or a good Jack Tripper explanation for Judge Furley, who just saw him strangling Janet and Crissy but it’s not what it looks like. Big misunderstanding.

Minnesota Vikings CB Chris Cook is up to his old hijinx again. And when we say “hijinx,” we mean “getting arrested.”

Back in March, Cook was arrested and then acquitted of charges of brandishing a firearm during a fight. This time? Cook was arrested on two charges of domestic assault and “intentional attempts to inflict bodily harm on another.”

Great job, Chris. He’s being held without bail and his first court appearance is Monday morning at 8:15 AM. For those of you who don’t have a calculator handy, that means that he’ll be in jail when the Vikings play the Packers on Sunday…unless the local sheriff or deputy or whoever decides to let him out. Wouldn’t count on it.

“The Minnesota Vikings are aware of the incident involving Chris Cook,” the Vikings said in a statement. “We take this matter very seriously and are still gathering all the details of the incident. We will not have any further comment at this time.”

We’re sure that the Vikings are aware of the incident, because they’ll have to find someone else besides the 2010 second-round pick to start opposite Antoine Winfield.

When the Colorado Rockies decided to ship out Ubaldo Jimenez, the centerpiece of their compensation was a young pitcher named Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz was the fifth-overall pick in the draft in 2010 and is obviously someone the Rockies have high hopes for.

So, it doesn’t help when they find out that their young lefty was arrested for disturbing the peace at 1:25 AM outside of a bar in Mississippi.

“The Rockies organization is aware of the unfortunate incident involving Drew Pomeranz that took place in Oxford, Miss,” the team said in a statement. “We have been in contact with Drew and his representatives and we will continue to gather information. Both Drew and our organization understand the serious nature of the situation.”

It should be noted that this isn’t Pomeranz’ first party rocking. Back in 2008, he was charged with having a fake ID, refusal to take an alcohol breath test and giving false information to the police.

Sounds like a good kid.

Pomeranz is expected to be part of the 2012 Rockies rotation. He was 2-1 this year with a 5.40 ERA.

With all the focus on the teams competing in the MLB playoffs, we quickly forget about those teams that weren’t good enough at playing baseball to make it to the post season. Houston Astros outfielder Jordan Schafer, who used to be a top prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization, chose “getting high outside of a Cheesecake Factory.” Schafer was arrested and charged with a felony for possessing 25 grams of pot.

The police report said that his 2008 Range Rover had expired Mississippi tags and when they approached his vehicle, the windows were down and they detected a “strong odor of marijuana was emitting.”

That’s a great idea. Not only is getting high in public a stroke of genius, you should do it with expired tags and the windows down. They’ll never see it coming!

An inspection of the vehicle turned up a “clear plastic container containing a green leafy substance,” which turned out to be – YOU GUESSED IT – pot.

Getting back to the amount. 25 grams? Really? You were driving around with 25 grams? You’re a professional athlete with everything to lose, and you are driving around with 25 grams? An eighth is too much to be driving around with (trust us, OTR knows this stuff) and that’s 3.5 grams. 20 grams is the threshold in Florida that pushes the “felony” button. So…25 grams? That’s almost a pound. Leave that crap at home, dufus. How far was home that you had to get high RIGHT THEN AND THERE and couldn’t wait to get to the bong in your basement?

Seriously, we couldn’t care less if the dude wants to smoke pot. But the level of stupidity to do it in public? Jesus blunt-rolling Christ.

CORRECTION: Didn’t re-read this well enough. 25 grams is almost an ounce, not a pound. Big difference. Meant ounce. Still, that’s way too much weed to be driving around with.

Former (or current, we have no idea if the Packers still have his rights) Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly was suspended by the NFL indefinitely after he was arrested three times on drug charges. And on Saturday, Jolly was arrested for a fourth time…on drug charges. Pretty much the same exact crap.

Yep, he’s still getting busted with Sizzurp-related stuff. Sizzurp, or Purple Drank, or Lean, is the mixture of codeine-based cough syrup mixed with soda and sometimes sprinkled with Jolly Ranchers. JaMarcus Russell loves the stuff!

But, it’s illegal and bad news. And Jolly got hit with it again.

He’s charged with possession of a narcotic compound containing codeine and other substances, which is a felony. He was also charged with a felony for concealing codeine.

In other words, playing in the NFL is the last of his worries. He’s going to be in jail for quite a while.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien is getting the party started early for the NHL’s return to Winnipeg. He’s celebrating by getting hammered on a boat, even though authorities don’t appreciate it.

Byfuglien was taken into custody in Minnesota on Wednesday (we’re a little late, sorry) when he refused a field sobriety test. Authorities don’t really appreciate that either and got him on suspicion of boating while intoxicated.

Perhaps more of a concern for the Jets is Byfuglien’s weight. He weighed in a 286 lbs.! He usually plays at 245-250 lbs. Jesus! Did he eat the boat?

Training camp starts in a several weeks, so he’s got some time. But, he might want to start hitting the rowing machine.

Originally, Cincinnati Bengals RB Cedric Benson was planning on serving his jail sentence for his 2010 assault charges during the bye week. It makes sense since the team usually tells its players to get away from football for a week.

But, there apparently has been a change of plans. At 11 p.m. Tuesday evening, Benson was checked into Travis County Jail to begin serving his sentence. It’s a 20-day sentence, but he can serve it in seven days with good behavior. So this is all assuming that Benson doesn’t set up a makeshift tattoo business or start a prison riot.

He’ll be released from jail hopefully so that he can return to practice next Monday. But if not, he’ll be back for Wednesday’s practice where he can begin preparations for Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.

Move Benson up your fantasy draft board if you get extra points for good behavior.

Oh what it must be like to be a famous celebrity or athlete who then gets busted for something big. You go from the top of the world to the bottom of some dude’s bunk in his cell. And that’s likely the scenario that former Washington Wizard Javaris Crittenton has found himself in (if he’s convicted of course).

The FBI has tracked down Crittenton in a California airport and arrested him for the murder of a 22-year old mother of four, who he allegedly shot during a drive by.

Brian Steel, the attorney retained by family members, shockingly said he didn’t do it.

“Mr. Crittenton wants to clear his name,” Steel told the AJC. “He’s innocent of the charges.”

So, just a couple of years ago, Crittenton was having a blast in the NBA, pulling guns on Gilbert Arenas in the locker room and everything was dandy. Now, he’s facing murder charges and could be put away for a very, very long time. Maybe he can be pen pals with Rae Carruth.

LSU is opening the season as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation. That’s great, right? Well, sure, but it would be a lot better if they knew they’d have their starting quarterback.

Jordan Jefferson is turning himself in, along with backup linebacker Joshua Johns, after an arrest warrant was issued. These two apparently got into a nasty bar fight and now face charges of second-degree assault. That’s a felony in Louisiana in case you are scoring at home.

Both players suspended indefinitely.

“We will continue to cooperate with the authorities in an effort to find out exactly what took place during the incident,” head coach Les Miles said in a statement.

“As sad as this incident is, it’s important that we learn from this and that we take away a valuable lesson. This has weighed on all of us. It’s time for us to come together as a team and focus on what we are here to do.”

So, we wonder if LSU’s ranking might change. Regardless, this is quite an awful way to start the season.

KDFM radio in Texas reports that Oklahoma City Thunder big man Kendrick Perkins was arrested early Saturday morning. He is charged public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

It’s not known if he was out and about just acting the fool and being reckless, or if he’s just an annoying drunk. Like, maybe he just kept telling the same story over and over and close-talking and people were like, “Yo, your friend has to go. He’s killing me with the pickup truck story. He’s told it like four damn times.”

Either way, he ended up in the cops’ hands. Both charges are misdemeanors and come with a maximum of $500 in fines. He posted the $150 bail shortly after being taken in.

New York Rangers goon and part-time fashionista Sean Avery was arrested on Friday morning at his home in Los Angeles. Police responded to a noise complain about a party he was having and things didn’t go so well.

The police report says that he was arrested for shoving a cop and he’s charged with battery of a police officer. Hindsight being 20/20, that was probably not in his best interests.

His bail was set at $20,000.

By most all accounts, Avery is a douchebag. However, he does support same-sex marriage so he can’t be all that bad.

We didn’t get a chance to post the original story of the arrest (again) of Cincinnati Bengals RB Cedric Benson. We were busy getting wasted by the pool all afternoon and by the time we got back, it wasn’t news anymore.

So, we’ll post about some of the new details that have come out. The original story said he was arrested for assaulting a family member. Well, the part about the family member isn’t exactly true. Apparently, Benson went outside of his home at 5am and approached his roommate, who was talking on a cell phone. According to a police affidavit, a “hostile and aggressive Benson” went up to him and told him that they “needed to talk about their problems.”

The former roommate said that they began talking about their living situation when “all of a sudden he was struck on his face with a closed fist throw by Benson.”

The man then said Benson proceeded to beat that crap out of him. Benson’s a big dude, it probably didn’t feel good. In fact, it says that he suffered “severe injury” and “possible loss of teeth and massive swelling of the left cheek.”

Jesus!

Benson left jail around 2pm on Sunday, accompanied by his attorney Sam Bassett. Benson had no comment, but his lawyer did.

“Mr. Benson has been charged with misdemeanor assault arising out of a conflict with a former male roommate. The two had difficulties resulting from Mr. Benson asking the former male roommate to leave his home a few days prior to this incident. The conflict became physical early this morning and we intend to fully investigate. There is not enough information available at this time for further comment,” said Bassett.

Not enough information? The guy who was there is standing right next to you! Ask him! Ask him!

It was actually a good year for Benson. He was arrested outside of a bar in June 2010, and hasn’t been arrested since this latest incident! Way to stay out of trouble, big guy!

We all know about Pacman Jones at this point. The Cincinnati Bengals CB likes to get arrested…a lot. He’s been in trouble with the law even before he was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft in 2005.

And while he hasn’t been in trouble for quite some time, he clearly still can’t help himself. He was arrested Sunday morning around 2:35am in Cincinnati for disorderly conduct outside of 639 Walnut St. He was apparently shouting profanities and acting the fool…all while wearing a neck brace from a football injury.

Can you picture that for a second? A drunken little a-hole acting out and swearing loudly while wearing a neckbrace? We can.

Jones has been questioned, named or arrested in 14 separate off-field incidents since being drafted in 2005. That sounds like a separate full-time job. How does one get involved with so many problems without trying?

We’ll see what comes of this, but Pacman better hope he’s not subject to more league discipline because of the lockout. As it is, he’s on his last straw with the NFL.

According to TMZ, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward had a little too much to drink last night before deciding to get behind the wheel of a car. The “Dancing with the Stars” champion was busted down in Georgia early Saturday morning on DUI charges.

There really aren’t too many details available right now.

Although, we do know that he posted $1,000 bond in Dekalb County and was released shortly thereafter.

At some point, the Steelers need to be likened to the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s not just this arrest with Ward either. It’s been rumored the Big Ben likes to dabble in the rape game. Their former kicker Jeff Reed liked to beat stuff up in convenience store bathrooms. Plaxico Burress? Enough said. They had to trade Santonio Holmes for his litany of issues with the law whether it be pot or women. Matt Spaeth turned a bar’s parking lot into his own personal restroom and the police didn’t appreciate it.
