We’re serious, we remember hearing it and thinking how stupid it was.

It’s kind of widely accepted now that Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson is the best in the league at the position. He ran for 2,006 yards last year and broke the single-season record for total yards.

But, Peterson isn’t ready to concede the crown of Best RB in the NFL just yet.

“[He's] not faster, stronger, anything,” Peterson told Dan Patrick on his radio. “You’ve got to understand you’re talking to a guy . . . that’s just the mentality that I have. I have ultimate respect for the guy and he’s a heck of a player. I remember at one point and time me talking on the phone to Chris Johnson. He was telling me, ‘I’m just a big fan of yours. I like your style.’ Some [of the] advice that I gave him was, ‘I play this game to be the best player ever to play the game. That’s my mentality.’”

Adrian, that’s not really advice just FYI. That’s you talking about your mentality. That doesn’t qualify as “advice.”

But anyway, we digress. Our mentality is to be the best running back ever too, but that doesn’t make it so. Stop putting the ball on the carpet and we’ll talk.

Everything we’ve seen and heard points to that, and Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune supported that in a live chat on the paper’s website today.

According to McDonald, Murphy will most likely lead the Raiders in receiving yards and touchdowns this year.

He’s finally secured the flanker spot and is light years ahead of Darrius Heyward-Bey. That’s not good news for the seventh-overall pick in last year’s draft. Chaz Schilens is a little banged up and will get some balls when he returns, but we advise taking Murphy.

We did a deep draft last night and grabbed Murphy in the 21st round. How thrilled were we? Expect everyone (except probably Darren McFadden and Heyward-Bey) to be better for the Raiders now that they finally have a decent QB in Jason Campbell.

We like grabbing Daniels after the 10th round or so as a backup tight end. He’s not going to do much early on as they work him back in, but he could/should come on towards the middle of the season. If he does, watch out. This dude can play and that offense is explosive.

Fred Jackson has performed well, but he’s got a busted hand and really doesn’t have a ton of upside.

Enter C.J. Spiller. He is a first-round pick this year and has a ton of explosion. And now, head coach Chan Gailey says he’s the starter for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins, according to NBC 2 WGRZ.

“#Buffalo #Bills: Gailey confirms Spiller will start at RB Sunday against Dolphins,” WGRZ tweets.

Many fantasy footballers weren’t sure what to make of the Bills running backs and for good reason. It’s kind of a mess back there. But, it looks like Spiller is their guy. If he goes in and does what he is supposed to, then Jackson and Lynch won’t see much playing time.

And when we say he struggled a bit, we mean that he stunk up the joint.

He was drafted by the Dolphins mainly because they thought he could be the ultimate Wildcat weapon. They got drunk on his physical abilities, but they never translated to being a somewhat functional NFL quarterback.

So after a bad 2009 rookie year and a relatively miserable offseason, the Dolphins decided to cut the cord on White and just move on.

And a league source tells ProFootballTalk.com that the Dolphins aren’t the only team that isn’t interested in having White on their roster. It seems that no team is even kicking his tires. No visits are lined up, he doesn’t have any offers, no nothing. And he isn’t eligible for the practice squad because he appeared in 13 games last year.

So what is next for White? He’s been drafted four different times in baseball, so maybe he takes a look at that. He’s clearly a superior athlete, so that might be an option.

But, that said, this is quite a stunning fall from being the 44th-overall pick in 2009.

We still can’t see him never getting a chance in the NFL again, that’s kind of absurd. And a source tells PFT essentially the same thing.

“I’d be surprised if he wasn’t in the league at some point,” a source said.

But anyway, it seems like the New York Jets are going to rush newly signed CB Darrelle Revis as much as possible to get him ready for the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

So where is Revis right now exactly?

“He looked good,” coach Rex Ryan said. “Actually, I’m supposed to say from the defensive staff that he looks slow [and] maybe we’ll rotate him in. That was from [defensive coordinator] Mike Pettine. I don’t know. We may just spell him a little bit to give Baltimore hope that he’s not out there. Everybody that knows me knows he’s going to play. . . . He had a pick, he knocked a ball out, he dropped another one. He was all over the place. He was Darrelle. He’s an amazing guy. ”

Photo Caption: Wow, look at that ass.

Ryan said that Revis looks pretty good, but that he does have some rust to shake off.

“I think it would be the coming in and out of breaks,” Ryan said, “the quick change of directions [and] the constant playing shape. It’s one sprint after another. He is in great shape. It’s just getting him to where he can set his pads. I think that’s maybe what we’ve got to overcome a little bit.”

Ryan doesn’t think that the Ravens would go after Revis a little bit this week because he’s not in full game shape.

“The guy has missed all of training camp,” Ryan said. “They should do that. Find him and go to him and go to him often. They’re smarter than that. They’re not coming after him. No way.”

We don’t expect Revis to be 100% Revis in the first few weeks, but it doesn’t really matter. 50% of Revis is still insane. We’re pretty sure that the Jets are excited to have signed him to a new contract and that the whole holdout ordeal is over.

While that’s still possible, the team’s quarterback doesn’t think that shipping Haynesworth out of town is a good idea.

In fact, Donovan McNabb says that the team can’t win without him.

“Albert is one of our brothers in the locker room,” McNabb said during his radio show on ESPN 980. “[H]e understands, ‘Hey, I got to put the time and effort in. We can’t win without him. I think he’ll be here. I hope he’ll be here.”

This is all well and good for him to support his teammate (none of the others have been willing to do that), but he’ll need to have an answer ready to the obvious question that will come up should the Redskins part with Albert. And that question of course is: “So you don’t think you have a chance now?”

You know the media will jump all over that one.

Like many things the Redskins do, it was just stupid.

And we all know by now all the BS that has been going on between Haynesworth and Shanahan. Well, that could all be coming to an end, as ESPN‘s Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Redskins are engaged in trade talks with the Tennessee Titans.

“Filed to ESPN: Redskins talk trade with the Titans again about Albert Haynesworth. No deal yet,” Mort tweets.

The Titans would be the perfect trade partner. They already know Haynesworth and what he’s all about. No surprises. And the Redskins have already payed that massive $20+ million roster bonus this year, so they’ll foot the majority of the bill.

Regardless, the Redskins need to do something. Either stop breaking his balls and let him play, or get rid of him. This ongoing punishment crap is just stupid for everyone involved.

Sports that the Heisman Trophy Trust will conclude that Reggie Bush was a fraud in 2005 at USC and will strip him of his Heisman Trophy award. There has been speculation that the award would go to second-place vote getter Vince Young, but it looks like the award will just be vacant for that year.

According to Yahoo, the Heisman Trophy Trust wanted to take their time in this investigation and make sure they did the right thing. But, after the NCAA decided that the New Orleans Saints RB had accepted illegal gifts from prospective agents and wiped out USC’s 2005 season, they didn’t really have much choice but to conclude the same thing.

What is funny in all of this is that Bush had the power to make it all go away a long time ago. His acceptance of cash and gifts from potential marketing agents only came to light because the guys wanted to be paid back and Reggie wouldn’t do it. If he had, they never would have gone to the media.

So, Bush clearly has no one to blame but himself. Not only for taking the money in the first place, but by refusing to pay it back. Well done, Reggie.

The Seattle Seahawks released RB Julius Jones this weekend in a somewhat surprising move. The team already has Leon Washington and Justin Forsett on the roster, but they are hardly load carriers.

But, Seahawks GM John Schneider, who may or may not have played Bo Duke on “The Dukes of Hazzard,” decided to bring Jones back at a fraction of his $2.45 million salary, and the running back agreed.

The team also declared that Justin Forsett will be their starting back. Don’t pay a ton of attention to this as he is a typical split-carries type of back. He’ll split time with Leon Washington, who probably won’t get as many touches as Forsett because of his return duties.

This makes Julius Jones the number three guy.

If you can’t tell already, avoid this situation in your fantasy draft. If you have to start any one of these three backs regularly (as in: not because you are screwed on a bye week), then you made a serious error in drafting at some point.

Just as we are getting ready for the start of the NFL season, the New England Patriots probably felt they needed to focus on game planning for week 1. It’s true, they do. But, now they have to deal with an unhappy Randy Moss, who feels “not wanted” since the Pats haven’t offered him a contract extension.

“When you have done so much and put so much work in, it kind of feels like I am not wanted,” Moss said ito CBSSports.com. “I am taking that in stride and playing my final year out and whatever the future holds is what it holds, but it is kind of a bad feeling — feeling not wanted. It is not like my production has gone down. I am speaking from an individual standpoint. I don’t know about Tom [Brady's] or whoever else’s contract.

“I am a little older and understand the nature of the business — the older you get the more your skills supposedly diminish, but I think I am getting wiser in how to use my physical skills. That’s the frustrating part when you put so much heart and desire into things and feel like you are not wanted.”

Moss is in the final year of a deal that will pay him $6.4 million this season. He’s 33-years old, but he’s still very productive.

If we are the Patriots (and some think we are), we wouldn’t give him more than two years on a contract extension. After 35, you are on your own, Randy.

There were previous rumors that he would be inactive.

A separate source tells Reid that, while he doesn’t know if he will start, that Haynesworth will be moved back to nose tackle. We don’t know if it’s permanent or if it was done to piss Albert off, but it’s definitely a change from him playing end in the 3-4 as he had most of training camp (when he was allowed to participate). The source also says that he’ll be taken out during nickel situations.

We can’t keep up with all of this. We know that Shanahan doesn’t approve of Haynesworth’s complaining and holding out of voluntary activities. But, you paid a guy all this money to have him on the field for two downs? He’s one of the best interior rushers in the NFL (when he wants to be) and you are using him like this?

Shanahan better have a method to all of this. Otherwise this is – yet again – a huge waste of Redskins’ time and resources.

The Seahawks are probably hoping that he gets the biggest contract he can. They guaranteed his $7 million salary this year and will have to pay the difference of whatever he gets from another club.

Donovan McNabb must be salivating at the thought of having an aging, loquacious wideout on his team. Seriously, who is this guy going to throw to this year?

He can’t wait for this guy to sign somewhere or to retire. We are really sick of typing his last name. It’s quite a chore.

The guy has risen up and been a stud this preseason and the only threats to his value have either gotten hurt, underperformed, or both.

Ben Tate went down for the year and is on IR. Steve Slaton likes to fumble and came down with a li’l case of the turf toe. Chris Henry was given his walking papers. So was Jeremiah Johnson (they did agree to terms with Derrick Ward. But Tampa Bay didn’t cut him because he’s the second coming of Dalton Hilliard). This makes Foster a potential stud.

Photo Caption: Slaton helping his team win.

However, reports out of Houston are saying that Slaton is now going to play in the opener. While this could dig in to Foster’s studliness, don’t expect too much.

However, his health should be monitored. If for some reason he reverts to 2008 form and can hold on to the ball, he could dig into Foster’s touches. This would make us sad. Especially because we have told all the people who we’ve helped in fantasy drafts to grab him. But then again, draft your own damn team if you don’t like our advice.

But in general, keep an eye on this one if you’ve invested anything in the Houston backfield. We liked Foster regardless of Slaton’s health, but you never know.

While this not terribly surprising, there is no way in hell that they deal both of them.

As a matter of fact, we can’t see them dealing Barber right now. And, a league source tells ESPN.çom’s Matt Mosley (another Dallas-based writer) that the team is not going to trade Barber, who is their starter at the moment.

That said, the Cowboys are like every other NFL team in the free world and has to trim their roster to 53 by 3 PM CDT. We could see them moving Choice because they are very deep at the position, but not Barber, unless they get a sweet offer.

The Cowboys have been in full-on trade mode lately. Yesterday, they sent Patrick Crayton to the San Diego Chargers and tackle Pat McQuistan to the Miami Dolphins.

We wouldn’t be shocked to see them move a running back, but Matt Mosley is on top of his stuff. If he hears that they aren’t moving Barber, then that’s probably the case.

But, the fact that he’s 32-years old, a shell of his former self and due $7 million this year, make that all but impossible.

So it’s no real surprise that ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that if the Seahawks can’t find a trade partner (and we doubt they will), he will be released.

But, this isn’t a cost-cutting move. The language in his contract with Seattle states that in the event that he’s released, Seattle will have to pay the balance of what the other team doesn’t. So, if Housh signs somewhere for $1 million this year, the Seahawks still owe the other $6 million. Brilliant contract.

If he does get cut, look for someone to kick his tires for a low base salary with high incentives.

The San Diego Chargers have traded a seventh-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for frustrated wide receiver Patrick Crayton.

The Chargers have been dealing with a thin WR core since Vincent Jackson has basically decided that he won’t play until he gets a new contract. So far, he seems pretty serious as he hasn’t reported to the team.

As for the Cowboys, they just don’t have room for Crayton and his $2 million salary. That’s way too much to pay for a fifth wide receiver. And Crayton wants to actually play, which he should have a chance to do in San Diego. He isn’t a superstar, but neither are Legedu Naanee, Buster Davis and Malcom Floyd.

It’s a win for the Chargers, a win for the Cowboys (who were just going to cut him most likely anyway) and a win for Crayton.

Apparently, Roger Goodell was sufficiently pleased by Ben’s progress as a human being and doesn’t think he’s going to rape anyone any time soon.

“Roethlisberger’s suspension is 4 games. He has left the NY area and is en route back to Pittsburgh. Full story ahead on NFL Network,” La Canfora tweets.

The Steelers look like they’ll have more than a few guys chipping in at starting QB this year. Byron Leftwich is most likely going to miss the first month or so after he suffered a torn MCL on Thursday night.

That means they’ll be relying on Dennis Dixon for a bit until either Leftwich or Big Ben comes back. Or just Big Ben, there is always the possibility that Dixon plays well enough that they won’t pull him for Byron.

But, those hopes will have to be shelved as Adam Schefter reports that the team fears that Hardesty has a torn ACL.

“Early diagnosis on Browns rookie RB Montario Hardesty: torn ACL. More exams today to confirm the news, but a blow to the Browns,” Schefter tweets.

Hardesty had microfracture surgery on his right knee in 2006, which is a pretty bad thing for a running back. And now for him to potentially have a torn ACL? Ouch. Not sure what they could expect from him moving forward.

Especially since he plays for the Browns, which means a staph infection is just right around the corner.

Move Jerome Harrison up your draft boards.

PHOTO CAPTION: Crayton gets a 15-yard penalty for horse-collaring himself

“It seems he doesn’t figure in their plans so it’s not logical to be on the roster until Saturday,” his agent Fred Lyles spoke on behalf of the disgruntled receiver. “We don’t see the use in prolonging it.”

Most likely, it will happen. Crayton is owed $2 million this year and that seems a bit much for a 5th receiver’s salary. Patrick finds himself behind teammates Miles Austin, Roy Williams, Dez Bryant, and possibly even Kevin Ogletree.

If Crayton is cut, he will definitely find another team to play for. He will join that team with the thought of getting increased playing time and changing the world. In reality, he’ll be a part-time slot receiver catching less balls than he thinks he should be.

We kept looking for a quote or a source in this story and didn’t find one. But, Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports says that if the New York Jets don’t come to an agreement with all-world CB Darrelle Revis soon, the relationship could be over.

As in…for good.

“Here’s a little piece of information for Ryan and the rest of the New York Jets: If Revis doesn’t get a new contract soon, New York doesn’t have to worry about the star cornerback showing up,” Cole writes. “Ever.

“As the clock ticks to the beginning of the NFL season, the relationship between the Jets and Revis is ticking toward an end. A divorce, really. That might sound like hysteria to some but it’s reality.”

Cole notes that Revis’ asking price isn’t all that crazy considering that a guy like Peyton Manning is probably going to get $25 million per year when he gets his next contract. So, is Revis crazy for asking for $16 million a year?

Don’t forget, as Cole points out, that Revis’ uncle is Sean Gilbert. This is the guy that sat out a year looking for $4-$5 million a year from the Washington Redskins. He missed an entire year, and then got $7 million from the Carolina Panthers.

With that kind of advice in his ear, it’s not crazy to think that he’ll stick to his guns and possibly – we emphasize “possibly” – never play for the Jets again.

Well, a big part of the problem is poor center play. Nick Cole is not a center. He’s not. He can’t make the calls. And Mike McGlynn was a little better, but he’s not really a center.

Good news for Eagles fans, starting center Jamaal Jackson said in a sideline interview on Thursday night that he’s “99.9%” sure that he’ll play in the opener against the Green Bay Packers.

He tore his ACL late in the season against Denver and one could argue that that was a big reason why the Eagles got knocked in the dirt twice in a row by the Dallas Cowboys. For him to be back in time for the opener would be huge. Then again, him saying he’s going to play and the doctors clearing him are two different things.

Now, of course he probably won’t be himself if he does play, but even 20% of Jackson is probably better than the crap they were getting from the other guys.

Yep, you read that right. A 33-year old WR who likes to pop off at the mouth is making $7 million guaranteed. What team wouldn’t want that?

Would the Vikings be interested? Probably not. Titans? Nope, every year we all talk about how needy they are for a wide receiver and they rarely address it. Browns? Can’t see it.

And what does this say about Housh? Seattle’s wide receivers are terrible, they certainly don’t have any room to be dropping somewhat-quality wideouts.

So yeah, have a good time with that one Seattle.

Friday is a big day for the Pittsburgh Steelers, their fans, and fantasy owners who selected Ben Roethlisberger in the 12th round of their fantasy drafts to back-up Brett Favre. Roethlisberger, his attorney David Cornwell, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and team president Arthur J. Rooney will be meeting in New York to determine how many games, if any, they will cut from Roethlisberger’s original six-game suspenion. Brett Favre was giving an informal invitation, but will not be attending.

Roethlisberger was suspended the six games under the “The Personal Conduct Policy” for being accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old college student in a Georgia nightclub in March. It was the second such allegation against Big Ben who has two Super Bowl victories underneath his belt. A belt that seems to come off a little too often when Jaeger Bombs and Miller Lite are mixed with college bars and young women.

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports that ‘most observers believe Goodell has had in his mind all along to reduce the suspension by two games to four’ if ‘Roethlisberger complied with a number of league-imposed conditions, including a comprehensive behavioral evaluation, and stayed clear of any other off-field problems.’ Fortunately for Big Ben, he hasn’t been accused of sexually assaulting any women lately (the longest stretch of his career), so he should be rewarded with a reduction in his suspension.

Details on the behavioral evaluation:

Roethlisberger will be shown pictures of young women, booze, teammates, and football and he has to respond “good” or “bad.” He must score 75% or higher to pass and has 30 minutes to complete. Pictures of young women wearing Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys will be mixed in to try to trick him. These are called ‘roadblocks.’

Roethlisberger will be given a taste test. Unmarked plastic cups will be filled with Vodka-Redbull, Budweiser, Gatorade, and water and he has to respond “good” or “bad.” He must score 75% or higher to pass and has 30 minutes to complete. A young woman will be giving him the taste test, so if at any time he tries to sexually assault her, Roethlisberger automatically fails the test and the behavioral evaluation.

Roethlisberger must score 75% or higher on both evaluations to pass.

Paolantonio is also reporting that ‘Roethlisberger’s representatives plan to ask the commissioner to reduce the suspension by at least three games. Therefore, he will miss the Atlanta, Tennessee, and Tampa Bay games and return Week Four to play the rival Baltimore Ravens at home. If Roethlisberger only gets a two game reduction, he will miss the Ravens game and then have two weeks to prepare (Bye Week) and return to play the Cleveland Browns (Week Six) at home.

In his absence at the start of the season, Byron Leftwich is supposed to start with Dennis Dixon backing him up.

Yes he did get paid. And he deserves it. He’s been phenomenal for the Cardinals, especially in his smooth transition to the 3-4 scheme. How many guys have we seen fail when a switch is made? Happens all the time.

Good for him. We have a feeling the Cardinals are going to clear up some cap space soon (ie, kick Leinart to the curb). The bad news for Dockett, though, is that he will now be in Arizona through 2015. At least the weather is nice.

Players don’t like being blocked or hit a spoken to a certain way, and they get pissy. But, rarely does the scuffle result in both men being sent to the locker room with the head coach for a period of time.

That’s what happened today at San Francisco 49ers practice. It probably would have been better if it wasn’t between two of the team’s superstars, but it was. Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree got into seriously enough that they had to be sent inside and Singletary followed them. Supposedly, Davis was verbally berating Crabtree at practice and the wide receiver didn’t care for it. And it sounds like this was something that’s been brewing for some time.

According to Singletary, “the elephant in the room has been exposed” and this argument was not about football. Uh oh! Is someone banging someone’s wife?

We doubt it, but we thought we’d throw that idea in the ring.

Singletary started his post-practice press conference like this:

“How many of you guys have families? … So you have kids, and every now and then your kids have misunderstandings or what have you. And they forget that there is a father at home,” Singletary said. “Vernon and Crabtree — just to let you know — I will not talk about the issue. But I will talk about this. They were both wrong. And we will not have distractions on this team. Vernon just forgot temporarily that this is not allowed. We don’t do that. We don’t treat family like that. We don’t disrespect each other. I just needed to remind him that’s not who were are.”

But, apparently Davis had the right idea, he just went about it the wrong way. Singletary said that Davis “did the right thing but did it the wrong way.”

Sounds to us like Crabtree needed to be informed of something but that Davis did it in dick fashion.

We were shooting the crap one night and I kept getting phone calls from people trying to find out who they should take in what round. And some of the calls I get (I love these) during this time of year are about the team someone just drafted. “What do you think about my team?” What difference does it make now? If you’d called me sooner I could have actually helped you out.

Have questions about who to draft? Who to start? Find us on Facebook and we’ll get back to you. We’ll have other info that we put out as well. Maybe injury news and stuff like that. We don’t know just yet, we just started it. Tell us what you want!

I’ve been playing fantasy football since 1993. Yep, before all this online stuff. I was playing when you had to keep score in the next day’s newspaper with the box scores. I’m not sure exactly how many leagues I’ve been in, but I’m guessing it’s way more than 40. And I can’t imagine how many drafts I’ve done, either for myself or to help someone else.

We love our fantasy football and we want to share our knowledge with you!

Well, Jay Glazer says that there isn’t any truth to it.

“Giants are not interested in trading for matt leinart. They are looking for a veteran backup who’s perfectly content w being eli’s backup,” Glazer tweets.

That’s the problem. Leinart is delusional and thinks he should be a starting QB for someone (UFL?). He’d just be a headache to anyone who traded for him strictly as a backup. This isn’t USC anymore, Matt.
