The Baltimore Ravens have signed WR Donte Stallworth to a one-year, $900,000 contract. The move comes just nine days after he was reinstated following a one-year suspension for running over Mario Reyes and killing him while driving under the influence.

The move makes perfect sense for the Ravens. It’s a low-risk move and gives QB Joe Flacco a vertical threat. Stallworth hasn’t played in a while but he’s not ancient and can still run. We think the Ravens will still look to add some WR’s in the draft as well.

A league source tells PFT that former Cleveland Browns WR Donte Stallworth is working out for the Detroit Lions. Surprisingly, the Lions could use a WR. Tough to imagine since they took them high in the first round in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007.

The Lions still have Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt, but the problem with that is they have Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt. They also have Derrick Williams who reminds too many people of Derrick Williams for him to be effective at the pro level.

It’s been quite a bumpy ride for Stallworth these last few years. In 2005, he was with the team that drafted him, the Saints. In 2006, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. 2007? The New England Patriots. In 2008, it was the Cleveland Browns. And of course, in 2009 he was suspended by the league for killing Mario Reyes with his car while impaired.

So yeah, if he signs with the Lions, he’ll be the NFL version of Kenny Lofton.

In a move that should surprise no one, the Cleveland Browns have released troubled wide receiver Donte Stallworth. Stallworth was due a $1 million roster bonus in March and you just knew that wasn’t going to happen. He’s only 29 and can still contribute, but the Browns clearly don’t want the PR nightmare around.

Look for a team like the Baltimore Ravens to kick his tires. They have a young QB with a laser gun of an arm, but no one that can get deep. Stallworth hasn’t played in a year, but most likely still has the jets.

Stallworth was recently reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell who insists that Stallworth is “in a better place than he was.”

Cleveland Brown’s wide receiver Donte Stallworth will be reinstated from his suspension for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said on Friday at this annual Super Bowl-week news conference.  The suspension will be lifted after the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Stallworth’s future with the Browns is still uncertain, although he is expected to be released.  Maybe Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid will give Donte’ a second chance?

Cleveland Browns WR (for now) Donte Stallworth has been suspended by the NFL for an entire season, following his guilty plea in the incident where he got drunk and killed a dude with his car in Florida.

“Your conduct endangered yourself and others, leading to the death of an innocent man,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter to Stallworth released by the league. “The NFL and NFL players must live with the stain that you have placed on their reputations.”

So is he done with the Browns?

“There’s really no decision that’s been made. We’re focused on what we have to do here, the players that are here, that’s the direction we are headed,” head coach Eric Mangini said.

We’d be shocked if he ever plays for the Browns again.

And when we say “marijuana,” we mean “pot.” Sorry we missed this one because we were moving to our new OTR offices in Philadelphia. But it seems that everyone’s favorite drunk driver Donte Stallworth also tested positive for pot, law enforcement sources told the Miami Herald.

The 28-year old WR, who seems like a good guy that just makes bad decisions, had a blood alcohol level of .126 (well above the legal limit) the morning he hit and killed Mario Reyes. He is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence, to be followed by two year of house arrest and eight years of probation. It seems that Florida law looks down upon people who kill other people due to getting behind the wheel of a car after a drinky drink and a tokey toke.

In 2007, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Stallworth was already in the NFL’s substance abuse program. We’ll have to see what Roger Goodell thinks of this latest positive pot test.

So, Roger Goodell has decided to lay the smack down on Donte Stallworth, who drove drunk and killed 59 year-old Mario Reyes. He received 30 days in jail and two years on house arrest. Well, Goodell took it to the next level and thoroughly champed Stallworth. He is suspended indefinitely.

“The conduct reflected in your guilty plea resulted in the tragic loss of life and was inexcusable,” Goodell wrote to Stallworth. “While the criminal justice system has determined the legal consequences of this incident, it is my responsibility as NFL Commissioner to determine appropriate league discipline for your actions, which have caused irreparable harm to the victim and his family, your club, your fellow players and the NFL.

“The conduct that led to your conviction plainly violates both the Personal Conduct and Substances of Abuse policies. Either provides me with full authority to take appropriate disciplinary action against you, including a fine or suspension without pay, and to impose appropriate conditions on your continued participation in the NFL. In this case, there is ample evidence to warrant significant discipline under both policies.

“There is no reasonable dispute that your continued eligibility for participation at this time would undermine the integrity of and public confidence in our league. Accordingly, I have decided to suspend you indefinitely, effective immediately. In due course, we will contact your representatives to schedule a meeting with you, after which I will make a final determination on discipline. Pending my final determination, you will not be permitted to visit the club’s facility or participate in any team activities.

“Everyone associated with the league derives tremendous benefits from participating in our game and from the extraordinary support we receive from the public. With these benefits comes, among other things, the responsibility to conduct ourselves in a lawful and responsible way, with no entitlement to or expectation of favorable treatment.”

Following Donte Stallworth’s guilty plea in his DUI manslaughter case in Florida, the Browns have issued a statement.

“The Browns are very conscious of the seriousness of the charges to which Donte’ Stallworth plead guilty to today,” the statement reads. “We are continuing to evaluate the situation and will make the decisions that we believe are in the best interest of the Cleveland Browns.”

Stallworth will serve 30 days in jail and spend two years on house arrest. Ouch.
