He knows his stuff better than most of the other talking head stiffs on the various NFL shows, and he doesn’t act like an arrogant ass like some others. He also doesn’t Gruden it up by saying over and over, “boy this guy is just an athlete!” and “boy I love this guy he is just a football player!”

So, you’d think that we’d be thrilled that NFL Network has announced that he’ll be working with Brad Nessler announcing the Thursday night games. Well, we aren’t.

Why? Why won’t anyone say it? Why do we all have to play pretend? I hate playing pretend! Why won’t everyone say what we’re all thinking when it comes to Mayock?

Yes, he knows his stuff, but….the lisp.

It’s not his fault and we aren’t making fun of him. But, it’s really distracting to listen to, no?

Look, being a television personality, whether it’s a broadcaster or talking head analyst, is about more than just knowing your stuff. For some ex-athletes like Emmitt Smith, his downfall wasn’t that he didn’t know what he was talking about. His grammar was on an eighth-grade level. He isn’t the only person with that problem, but sorry, you can’t be on TV.

So I wonder about Mayock. I believe he did the Seattle Seahawks/New Orleans Saints playoff game last year, and it was really distracting. What he’s saying is extremely valuable, but all I hear when he gets going is the speech impediment.

Let’s hope some of it can get corrected, although I have a feeling that if it was possible it would have been done by now.

Over the weekend, NFL Network’s Warren Sapp was arrested and charged for domestic battery after being accused of choking his girlfriend at The Shore Club, a hotel in Miami.

Keep in mind this former NFL player is 6-2 and probably tips the scales around 300 pounds when you read the following…

According to the police affidavit, Sapp tried to choke the woman and pushed her down on a couch. The argument continued and Sapp grabbed her by her shirt and neck and threw her down again, giving the victim bruises on her neck and a swollen knee.

If this is the truth, Sapp’s career in NFL broadcasting will be over. And there are reports that the allegations are false, so for now…

…let’s just have fun with Warren Sapp’s mugshot.

The former defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders was brought in Saturday afternoon and detectives are still interviewing him, police spokesman Juan Sanchez said. Sapp has not been arrested, Sanchez said, and details of the allegations haven’t been released.
