While that’s still possible, the team’s quarterback doesn’t think that shipping Haynesworth out of town is a good idea.

In fact, Donovan McNabb says that the team can’t win without him.

“Albert is one of our brothers in the locker room,” McNabb said during his radio show on ESPN 980. “[H]e understands, ‘Hey, I got to put the time and effort in. We can’t win without him. I think he’ll be here. I hope he’ll be here.”

This is all well and good for him to support his teammate (none of the others have been willing to do that), but he’ll need to have an answer ready to the obvious question that will come up should the Redskins part with Albert. And that question of course is: “So you don’t think you have a chance now?”

You know the media will jump all over that one.

Like many things the Redskins do, it was just stupid.

And we all know by now all the BS that has been going on between Haynesworth and Shanahan. Well, that could all be coming to an end, as ESPN‘s Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Redskins are engaged in trade talks with the Tennessee Titans.

“Filed to ESPN: Redskins talk trade with the Titans again about Albert Haynesworth. No deal yet,” Mort tweets.

The Titans would be the perfect trade partner. They already know Haynesworth and what he’s all about. No surprises. And the Redskins have already payed that massive $20+ million roster bonus this year, so they’ll foot the majority of the bill.

Regardless, the Redskins need to do something. Either stop breaking his balls and let him play, or get rid of him. This ongoing punishment crap is just stupid for everyone involved.

There were previous rumors that he would be inactive.

A separate source tells Reid that, while he doesn’t know if he will start, that Haynesworth will be moved back to nose tackle. We don’t know if it’s permanent or if it was done to piss Albert off, but it’s definitely a change from him playing end in the 3-4 as he had most of training camp (when he was allowed to participate). The source also says that he’ll be taken out during nickel situations.

We can’t keep up with all of this. We know that Shanahan doesn’t approve of Haynesworth’s complaining and holding out of voluntary activities. But, you paid a guy all this money to have him on the field for two downs? He’s one of the best interior rushers in the NFL (when he wants to be) and you are using him like this?

Shanahan better have a method to all of this. Otherwise this is – yet again – a huge waste of Redskins’ time and resources.

The Seahawks are probably hoping that he gets the biggest contract he can. They guaranteed his $7 million salary this year and will have to pay the difference of whatever he gets from another club.

Donovan McNabb must be salivating at the thought of having an aging, loquacious wideout on his team. Seriously, who is this guy going to throw to this year?

But, there were concerns about his knee so he dropped a bit in the draft.

However, the Washington Redskins don’t concern themselves with such matters. Facts like knee issues or character concerns or missing a left leg are of trivial importance to the Redskins. They’ll sign or draft whoever they want.

So they did, and so far Kelly has done nothing for the club. He’s been hurt and can’t seem to get separation. This year, he’s had a balky hamstring in camp that has severely limited him.

The good news is that he tried to practice today. The bad news is that he’s re-injured his hamstring.

Head coach Mike Shanahan said he isn’t exactly sure just how badly he hurt himself.

“Let me see how bad he is first before I start talking about our options,” Shanahan said. “I really don’t know how bad it is. It’s definitely a setback. And once they do that I can share it with you.”

This isn’t the official death blow to Kelly’s chances of making the team, but it’s close. The one thing he has going for him is that the Redskins are pretty awful at wide receiver.

Jason Reid of the Washington Post says that a source told him during the offseason that the Washington Redskins had concerns about their running back depth behind Clinton Portis. You are probably thinking, “yeah, duh. That’s why they signed Larry Johnson and Willie Parker.”

No, this was after they had already signed those two.

During their last preseason game against the Ravens, Johnson struggled in his “showcase” game. He gained four yards on eight carries, was bad in blitz pickup and couldn’t come up with a short pass from Donovan McNabb.

That same source called Reid shortly after the debacle.

“That’s what I was talking about,” he said.

Head coach Mike Shanahan is the complete opposite of former Redskins coach Steve Spurrier (probably in a lot of ways) when it comes to protecting the QB. Spurrier gave the QB minimal – if any – protection and let guys like Patrick Ramsey get their heads blown off. Shanahan preaches QB protection and he expects his backs to chip and pick up blitzes. Larry stinks at this.

As for Parker, he’s scheduled to have his “showcase” game against the New York Jets this Friday. He’s been listed as third on the depth chart behind Portis and Johnson, but don’t be surprised if he’s axed too. As in, axed to leave the facility and turn in his playbook. The team is pretty high on Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams, and they might prefer to keep the young legs vs. the guy with minimal tread on the tires.

In other words, avoid Johnson and Parker in your fantasy draft.

Well now, a league source tells Jason La Canfora of NFL Network that Haynesworth is likely suffering from a condition known as rhabdomyolysis, where muscle fibers get broken down and can have a negative affect on the kidneys.

The source said that Haynesworth was experiencing the symptoms of rhabdomyolysis, which include dizziness, nausea, vomiting and muscle swelling.

Luckily for Haynesworth, his symptoms weren’t on the extreme end of the spectrum and he was able to recover enough to play in Saturday night’s game against the Ravens. But, because he didn’t practice this week, he wasn’t able to get out there with the ones, which he didn’t like at all.

We all know about Albert Haynesworth skipping the offseason workouts for the Washington Redskins and him not wanting to play in the 3-4 and Shanahan failing him in conditioning tests and so on.

But, Haynesworth seemed to be ok with the new scheme and came out a while ago supporting the 3-4 defense. Now? He has other issues.

He couldn’t practice this earlier this week because of dehydration. Shanahan essentially called that nonsense. Then, he was held out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday because of headaches. Apparently, he feels like they are holding back injury information on him.

“I was told I had ‘headaches’ or whatever and that’s why I couldn’t go out and practice,” he said, clearly letting everyone know that the fact that they called them “headaches” was total crap. “I think it was a little bit more than that.”

Haynesworth then said, “[Headaches] was part of that but it wasn’t all of it. They left out a lot of stuff.”

What were the real reasons you were held out?

“You would have to ask them,” he said.

On Saturday night against the Baltimore Ravens, Haynesworth was out there in the third quarter with the backups and he didn’t appreciate it.

“I’m a ninth year pro,” he said. “I don’t think I should have been out there in the third quarter, but having ‘headaches’ again, that’s what they wanted to do.”

Shanahan said Haynesworth did some work on the treadmill on Friday just so he’d be able to play in the Ravens game.

“He wasn’t going to be able to play with the first or second team for obvious reasons,” Shanahan said. “He’s going to have to earn his way into that group, and once we get him into football shape, then we’ll get him some playing time. We’ll see how he did and evaluate that.”

Haynesworth was asked why he thinks they’d do this to him.

“I guess to make me look bad for not going to their off-season conditioning program,” Haynesworth said. “Next year, I’m not coming either … I don’t know what’s going on, but I’ve never seen anything like this.”

If you are in the Redskins organization, this is a disaster. If you are a league observer, it is downright hysterical. Stay tuned for Shanny’s next move.

“I’m starting to get comfortable with what’s going on around here as far as what the standard is,” Thomas said. “And I’m starting to get comfortable with exactly what Coach [Mike Shanahan] wants us to do and what he wants out of me.

“I’m trying to be the best I can be for him, and at the same time I’m just trying to improve my play. I’m focusing on what I need to do. My body’s starting to get in shape as far as football-wise. Each week, I’m feeling better and better.”

Jason Reid of the Washington Post said that it would “not be surprising” to see Thomas shoot up the depth chart at the X position and start early on in the season. After all, it’s not like they have a bunch of stud wideouts in D.C.

Many people might jump to the conclusion (like Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com did) that Betts will join the backfield rotation with Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush. We don’t think so. We even think he might not make the team.

Betts was never a great RB and he’s now coming off reconstructive knee surgery on his torn ACL and MCL. He’s 31-years old now and in his ninth year. He’s never really been terribly good. We don’t see him taking too much from Thomas, if anything at all.

Betts also had interest from Houston, San Francisco and Denver, but there is a reason he hasn’t been on anyone’s roster until now.

Mike Sando of ESPN.com said that he had gotten word from John Clayton that this would be the case.

“Just landed in STL and finished radio with John Clayton, who says the Rams will likely add Brian Westbrook on Monday. Good insurance,” Sando tweets.

The problem comes when you get your information from Clayton or Chris Mortensen. They do have some sources, but no one ever calls them out on the fact that they are wrong quite a bit.

And that may be the case here. Jason La Canfora of NFLN reports that the Redskins are still in play for the little guy and that Westbrook hasn’t made a decision yet.

“Brian Westbrook hasn’t made any decision yet and hasn’t told any teams he has made up his mind according to several sources…,” La Canfora tweets.

Could La Canfora’s sources be from Westbrook’s camp? Could they be trying to drive up some last minute interest? Sure, that’s always out there.

But at the very least it does cast some doubt on the report based on Clayton. We’ll have to see what happens. He’ll either sign with the Rams or he won’t. But, based on everything we’ve heard, it will be either the Redskins or the Rams. Then again, don’t rule out the Denver Broncos. But, of course the Detroit Lions could bring him in. That’s assuming that the Oakland Raiders have no interest.

It’s pretty well known that Washington Redskins defensive tackle/end Albert Haynesworth was not happy with the Redskins’ switch to the 3-4 defense. After a bunch of crying and whining from both sides, Albert finally showed up and decided to be a part of the team.

But, could it possibly be that Haynesworth now likes the very defense that kept him away from offseason workouts? Is it possible that he “Liked” the 3-4 defense on Facebook?

“It’s different, but I like it,” he said. “It’s something I’ve got to get used to. But other than that, it’s a good defense. They’re lining me up to pass rush, and that’s something really important to me. What I was told earlier is totally different from what we’re doing now. Getting with [defensive coordinator] Jim Haslett the last few weeks has really cleared up a lot of stuff, and I really enjoy it. It’s been great having him on my side, and really helped me get the defense.”

So maybe all is well now with the Redskins. Haynesworth was even asked about his wonderful relationship with head coach Mike Shanahan.

“Uh, he’s the head coach and I’m a player. It is what it is.”

We’re wondering if he truly loves the new defense or if he truly loves not having to pay any bonus money back.

Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley has been known to be a bit ornery. This time, he gets a young fan to hide in Donovan McNabb’s locker and wait for him.

Donovan’s reaction is great. We’d have gotten quite a jolt from that too. And plus, it’s better than Cooley stealing money from him and calling it a joke.

His burst seems to be gone as injuries may have just taken their toll.

In Washington, he is one of 37 running backs on the roster and it will be tough for him to get any significant playing time. And, according to ESPN’s Matt Mosley, it’s going to be tough for him to even make the team.

Mosley says that Larry Johnson has “actually shown a burst at times” at training camp. One longtime Redskins reporter tells Mosley that he thinks that Larry could get more carries than Clinton Portis this year. But, we agree with Mosley that that probably isn’t going to happen unless Portis gets hurt. But, that said, Portis could very well get hurt.

That brings us to Parker. Mosley said that he’s not really getting many reps and that it’s possible that he’s getting even less than Ryan Torrain. Man, if that’s the case, how can they justify keeping Parker?

Not looking good.

Sure, it sounds stupid to say that because he is the knucklehead that’s caused so many problems since getting that ginormous contract last year. But, the Redskins should have known what they were getting. They should have seen enough evidence in the past that this wasn’t a guy they should be giving big money too.

But, they didn’t. They screwed up. And now, they are paying the price.

According to Jason Reid of the Washington Post, the team is getting increasingly frustrated with Haynesworth and his inability pass a conditioning test. He was told by multiple sources that the team believes that there is some knee irritation, but not enough that he can’t do the two timed 300-yard shuttle runs. An MRI on his knee recently showed no structural damage.

We believe that his knee is bothering him, but we also believe that Mike Shanahan and his conditioning test are bothering him as well. If Haynesworth can come up with any excuse not to try the conditioning test, he then won’t be able to pass it. He will thus not be able to practice. Sounds like something Albert would do? Of course it does.

We’ll see what the Redskins next move is. It’s tough to tell just how hurt someone is.

That gave the Ravens some breathing room in terms of their QB depth chart, but now the Redskins have the problem of too many QB’s.

Not for long. ESPN 980 radio in Washington D.C. reports that the Redskins has cut former University of Hawaii standout Colt Brennan. The sixth-round pick in 2008 never lived up to his college hype and there were always rumors that he was kind of a dick.

This means that Beck and Rex Grossman will compete for the backup job to Donovan McNabb (that’s not exactly true. Supposedly, Grossman is “entrenched” as the backup. Take that with a grain of salt). And it doesn’t seem like there will be a third spot to compete for since Mike Shanahan usually only keeps two quarterbacks on the roster.

While he said he strives to win the big one, he doesn’t believe that it should define how good of a player he was when all is said and done.

“Well you know what, I’ve always been a big believer of winning a Super Bowl is obviously an outstanding achievement, but that really doesn’t reflect on what type of career that a person has had,” McNabb said, per Sheil Kapadia of Philly.com. “Many quarterbacks have had a lot of success putting numbers into the books, and having a lot of wins and whatever it may be, but were not able to win that Super Bowl. But does that really give a tell-tale of what type of quarterback that player was? No, I don’t think so.”

Photo Caption: Mike Shanahan solves the problem of the weak offensive line by simply putting no one against them. It has worked so far in OTA’s.

Essentially, he’s right. Is Mark Rypien better than Donovan? Is Trent Dilfer? Brad Johnson? Of course not. But, then again that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t love to win it all at some point.

“But that is the ultimate goal which I shoot for,” he said. “You can have all the numbers. You can have all the touchdowns, whatever it may be. I would love to just win a Super Bowl. If I can accomplish that, hopefully good things can happen, and hopefully it’s with the Washington Redskins.”

Well, based on the offensive line you have right now, the lack of weapons on the outside and the amount of toasted running backs on the roster, it’s not looking good. Not right now anyway.

Kelly was a second-round pick in 2008, but hasn’t shown much of anything at the pro level.

We could see this happening for a few of reasons. First of all, he doesn’t have much in the way of speed. Whether that’s because of his knee issues or because he just isn’t that fast doesn’t matter. The bottom line is he really doesn’t separate very well.

Secondly, when you aren’t contributing on offense, you have to do something on special teams. Kelly doesn’t. At what point are you just wasting a roster spot?

And now you have a new regime in Washington. The fact that they spent a second rounder on him a couple years ago really means nothing to the new guys in town. He was never their guy, so they don’t have much invested in him.

Still, we guess that Kelly does have a chance to stick around. It’s not like the Redskins have the Smurfs anymore. That team is very thin at WR and that is to Kelly’s advantage.

Still, in two years the 23-year old has caught 28 passes for 365 yards and no TD’s.

While nothing is imminent, GM A.J. Smith is apparently digging in his heels when it comes to the demands of Jackson and Marcus McNeill.

One source tells Acee that the Seattle Seahawks are very interested in acquiring Jackson. This makes sense because the Seahawks seem to be after any WR on the market. They were very interested in Brandon Marshall before his trade to the Miami Dolphins.

Another source says that the Washington Redskins are in play as well. The Redskins are pretty awful at wide receiver, so we aren’t shocked. Santana Moss is old and in the process of getting caught using HGH (we don’t know if this has a direct impact on their interest in Jackson, but it certainly could). 2008 second-round pick Malcolm Kelly has his heart in the right place, but he can’t separate and is hurt too often. Also a 2008 second-round pick, Devin Thomas seems to have a poor attitude, bad work ethic and a penchant for being bad at football.

Jackson is reportedly looking for a deal just north of the four-year, $47.5 million deal that Marshall signed with the Dolphins. As of right now, Jackson has not signed his RFA tender.

Haynesworth didn’t report to a mandatory minicamp that started on Wednesday and pretty much the whole building in DC is pissed off.

One source tells Schefter that Haynesworth was “assured” by the NFLPA that the bonus money he received would be completely safe if he chose not to show up to an offseason minicamps. We think the Redskins are going to disagree with that one.

Another NFL source reviewed Haynesworth’s contract and the CBA and tells Schefter that the agreement is “open to interpretation,” which would sound bad for Haynesworth. We say this because if it’s open to interpretation, he is the one that has clearly come across as the a-hole in this situation and probably won’t get any benefit of the doubt.

The bottom line is that Haynesworth doesn’t want to play in the new 3-4 defensive system despite getting the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history. He’s being a little baby and is demanding a trade. How on Earth could the Redskins really move your fat ass at this point?

They gave him $41 million guaranteed last offseason while apparently not doing their homework on the type of person he was.

This year, the Redskins have switched to a 3-4 and Haynesworth doesn’t like it. Despite depositing a $20 million check a couple months ago, he’s been a no-who for offseason activities. Now, he’s apparently demanding at trade.

“The Redskins are trying to establish a new regime with new schemes at Redskins Park, and it is not an organization that Albert would have ever been attracted to just a short year ago — regardless of the money,” agent Chad Speck told the Washington Post. “He has made it clear to me that he does not want to play for the Washington Redskins.

“This situation will be a distraction to the Redskins and to Albert and his teammates,” added Speck. “I am certain Mike Shanahan and Bruce [Allen] want to get the most out of their first year and it’s probably in everyone’s best interests for the Redskins to make a deal and trade Albert.”

While it’s pretty clear that the coaches and front office have tired of Haynesworth’s act, they aren’t alone. Now, it seems like even his teammates want him gone.

“I want teammates who I can depend on, who I can count on,” Fletcher said to Rick Maese of the Washington Post. “[Haynesworth] has shown he can’t be depended on.”

Yeah, it’s that bad. The problem for the Redskins is…who would want him? You won’t get anything of value (just ask them, they’ve tried) and releasing him just means that you urinated some $30 million down the toilet.

We can’t really blame them, since they’ve won Super Bowls with the likes of Timmy Smith and George Rogers. Smith wasn’t cooked, but he was never really even prepped for the frying pan. He wasn’t passed his prime, he simply never had one.

Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan recently said that Clinton Portis is the starting RB “heading into training camp.” That could change of course with the likes of Larry Johnson and Willie Parker on the roster. We don’t know what those two are brining to the table at this point, but we could say the same about Portis too.

So, why not add another cooked RB to the roster? The team had Brian Westbrook in for a visit about a month ago, but nothing happened. Now, it seems that they have offered him a contract.

“We want him to sign with us,” Shanahan said. “Like I said, it could be some great competition. I really like Brian, what he’s done and how he’s handled himself. I’m sure he’s weighing some options. It’s not too far away from home. Any more I can do?”

Whether or not Westbrook cares to be a Redskin remains to be seen. He’s clearly not a hot commodity on the free agent market, but who would want to join that backfield? They could promise him three touches a game?

This past Tuesday, Galea was charged with smuggling and distributing HGH. He was said to be on his way to the Redskins facility with a delivery when he was caught.

Barry Svrluga from the Post caught up with Moss on Wednesday. Moss was clearly not comfortable with the conversation and tried to steer it away from him having anything to do with using banned substances.

Here is the Q&A with Svrluga as it appears in the Post.

Svrluga: “How are you feeling?”

Moss: “Rehabbing. I ain’t bothering nobody. I’m rehabbing. Getting better.”

Q: “Are you at all surprised to hear that HGH report about someone on this team?”

A: “I’ll talk about football. I don’t know about nothing else. I ain’t got nothing to do with nothing that ain’t about me.”

Q: “Okay, well, just to be clear, have you ever met this guy [Dr. Anthony] Galea?”

A: “Like I said, I ain’t got nothing to do with that. I ain’t got nothing to do with it. You want to talk about Redskins, I’ll give you an interview. We ain’t talking about Redskins right now.”

Q: “But the guy was on this team. That makes him a Redskin.”

A: “What that got to do with me?”

Q: “Well, does it have anything to do with you?”

A: “I’m just saying to you bro, you come to me right now, and I appreciate you coming to me the right way. I’m telling you right now, I’m talking about football. You talk about football, anything else out of that, no. You say, ‘Santana, I got something to talk to you about,’ then if it’s about me, then I’ll talk to you about it.”

Q: “But here’s what I’m saying to you, Santana. You can put it to bed right now if it’s not you.”

A: “What you want to do?”

Q: “I just want to ask …”

A: “I’m telling you, if you want to talk about football, we can talk about football. I’m not going to answer none of your questions about somebody else unless it’s pertaining to me. You know what I’m saying? Other than that, it’s football.”

Photo Caption: Obviously, this kind of crap happened way too often for Belichick’s liking.

A few months ago, Springs was thinking about retirement and possibly heading to law school to become a player agent. It’s possible that he finds another home on a corner-needy team.

Many people had Russell Okung slated to go there, but the Redskins obviously felt that Williams was better for their zone blocking scheme.

The big questions mark, however, was Williams commitment and dedication to football. Jason Reid of the Washington Post did all of us a huge favor by speaking with Oklahoma’s director of sports enhancement (essentially a strength and conditioning coach. It sounds like someone asked for a raise and was given a shiny new title in lieu of one) Jerry Schmidt.

“He’s one of those guys, he’s definitely not a gym rat. If he was, there wouldn’t be anybody even close to him,” Schmidt said. “If he really committed himself, it wouldn’t even be close. He’d be the best ever. That’s how much talent he’s got. There’s a lot of talent there that he just hasn’t tapped.”

Photo Caption: Trent takes this play off.

Wow. That’s his way of saying that this cat is lazy. This guy must be amazing to get drafted that high and not even really care about working hard. Good for him?

“He’s got a lot of natural, God-given ability. He’s got great feet, balance, which allows him to play both guard and tackle,” Schmidt said. “Even as a young player, you could tell right away how talented he was. He has a great upper-body, just real natural strength. You look at him, the way he runs, there’s not many athlete that big who can run like that. He’s a very talented guy.”

The trade was completed a short while ago and it’s believed that the Raiders have extended Campbell’s contract.

“I talked to [Raiders owner] Al Davis, and he said he wants me there,” Campbell told Jason Reid of the Washington Post. “That means a lot to me. I’m ready to get to work.”

So are about twelve other QB’s on the Oakland roster. Campbell will be competing with (and when we say competing, we mean that he’ll be handed the starting job) JaMarcus Russell, Kyle Boller, Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye.

The only person that has any remote chance of winning that job besides Campbell will be JaMarcus. He’s still got the big contract and the hopes that come with being a #1-overall pick. We don’t think there is any way that he fights hard enough to win the job, but you have to think he’ll be given every opportunity. That is…is he’s not cut before the end of the day.

Now look really close to that article. What do you see? Do you see a name of a person who seems to consistently get news wrong? Do you see a name of a reporter who seems to just make stuff up so his name can get out there? Sal Paolantonio? Seriously, how does this guy have a job? This guy hasn’t broken any news for at least five years now. Our blog has broken more stories than him.

Everyone makes a big deal about it and speculates about how many wins a team will have or who will win this matchup in December or whatever. The truth is, a lot changes between now and these games and you don’t know who will surprisingly stink and who will surprisingly be good.

That said, we admit that we were at least a little curious about when Washington Redskins QB Donovan McNabb would face the Philadelphia Eagles. And it seems that we now have our answer.

October 3rd.

That’s when McNabb will meet the Eagles for the first time this season and will make his first appearance as a visitor at Lincoln Financial Field. Then, on November 15th, he’ll get another shot at his former team when the Redskins host the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

The type of response McNabb gets from the home team could very well have something to do with how Kevin Kolb has played up until that point.

Actually, they swapped fifth- and seventh-round picks.

Something tells us that the Rams don’t think they’ll ever get anything out of Carricker. But supposedly, Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett has been wanting to get his hands on Carricker since he went to Washington (good god, why?). The Redskins obviously believe that he’ll be a better fit in their new 3-4 scheme.

This could be another sign (as if there weren’t enough) that obnoxious DT Albert Haynesworth could be dealt this week or at some point during the draft. Or both. There are already reports coming out of Tennessee that the Titans could be the team that takes him back. After all, they already know his deal and we would have to think the main sticking point in a deal like this will be how much of Albert’s salary the new team has to reimburse the Redskins for.

Each day that he’s on the team and annoying the crap out of everyone in the building, we think that number will decrease.
